Surflight Theatre’s production department is accepting resumes for the following staff positions for the 2011 summer season for the period:
May-August/September..
Staff applicants must have advanced educational or professional experience. (See “Internships” for undergraduate applicants) All positions are extremely “hands-on” and require flexibility and humor within a rigorous summer stock schedule. Staff positions include salary and housing. Theatre and housing are located one block from the beach.

INTERNSHIPS
Surflight Theatre is currently accepting applications for Internships for the 2010 season. All interns receive a $150/week stipend and an extra stipend of $25/production for Children’s Theatre work, as well as free housing. All rooms are shared in a large group beach house. Interns receive design/staff opportunities on the Surflight Children’s Theatre productions. Internships are extremely “hands-on” with tremendous responsibility, and require flexibility and humor within a rigorous summer stock schedule! Ability to work long hours a plus! Terrific opportunity to work with professional Designers and Staff as well as get numerous large musicals and Children’s shows on your resume. All interns have the opportunity to crossover into other technical areas if they have interest in other disciplines. Internships run May-August or later depending on availability, but are full time positions and only applicants who can commit to the bulk of the summer season will be considered (May 15-Labor Day). Some dates can be flexible if necessary depending on college schedules.
The following Internships are available:
Stage Management:
Stage Management interns act as assistants to the PSM’s (who are members of Actors’ Equity Association), assisting with rehearsals, taking blocking, maintaining discipline and serving as deck ASM’s during shows. Interns also serve as the Stage Manager in charge including calling of at least one or more of the Children’s Shows (adults performing for children). EMC points are also available for those interested in being a part of that program.
Electrics:
Electrics interns serve on the electrics crew for hang and focus, are on deck crew or spotlight for run of shows and may design one or more of the Children’s Shows (adults performing for children). Electrics interns frequently assist with sound.
Properties:
Interns in properties assist the prop master in all prop areas: shopping, carpentry, soft goods, painting, set dressing, crafting. Prop interns frequently serve as run crew for MainStage productions.
Costuming:
Wardrobe interns work as stitchers in the costume shop, run wardrobe crew during shows and assist in design for Children’s Theatre.
Scenic Painting:
Scenic Painting Interns are frequently design students who serve as scenic painters for all MainStage shows learning faux finishing techniques, lettering, large drop painting among other things. Scenic painters assist properties with complicated painting and are in charge of certain scenic elements of Children’s Theatre productions.
Scenic Shop:
Shop interns assist the shop as carpenters, riggers and/or welding. All skills will be taught if necessary. Interns serve on rail crew or deck crew for shows. Shop interns frequently TD Children’s Theatre shows.
Arts Management:
Arts Management interns assist in the theatre office with company and production management duties, assisting the business manager and Artistic Director. These interns will also assist in the box office, front of house, concessions and in technical production for strike and load in. Arts Management interns will serve on run crew for MainStage or Children’s Theatre as necessary.
Musical:
Interns in Music will assist in the pit, playing rehearsals if keyboardist, programming, vocal arrangements, etc. An intern in Musical Directing or Music should be proficient in at least one of the following: Piano, Drums, Woodwinds and must read music.
Applicants for internships should have basic knowledge in the area in which they are applying. Internships are learning opportunities and staff is expected to train interns in all assignments if necessary. Interns are generally undergraduates or recent BFA graduates.

APPRENTICE PROGRAM
The Surflight Theatre Apprentice program is for students between the
ages of 14 and 18 and for older students or early career applicants.
Apprentices are not paid and must be able to provide their own housing
within commuting distance to the theatre.
